HAWKS HAMMERED

HAWKHURST PARK

Hawkhurst   1 West Ham United   2
M Taylor 90

M Harewood 12, 36

Attendance: 4,796

Hawkhurst FC have missed out on promotion in their first season in the Championship after losing to promoted West Ham.

Marlon Harewood led a fierce all-out attack on Hawkhurst despite the fact that they were promoted last week.

After a strong volley on the twelth minute, Harewood curled home a free-kick conceded by Bulbrook to seal the deal on a dismal day for the Hawks.

But Taylor was determined to make something good come out of his last games as a player and finally got a consolation goal on the stroke of full-time.

Despite their loss, Hawkhurst now move to face Gillingham in the play-offs, but neither Taylor nor manager Chuck Masterson are holding out much hope.

"The most we are likely to get is the Final.  We have no hope of getting promoted, but none of the lads are really bothered," Masterson said at a press conference after the game.  "But another season in the Championship will ot defeat us!"

Man of the Match: Marlon Harewood (Hawkhurst): Looked strong throughout and nailed the Hawk's coffin with a superb curling free kick.
